Dr. Emily Craft

Dr. Craft was born and raised in Richmond, Virginia, and she graduated from the University of Virginia with a degree in Biomedical Engineering before entering dental school at Virginia Commonwealth University. She relocated to Austin after dental school because of Austin’s outstanding reputation and her desire to experience life in a different part of the country.

Dr. Craft chose to become a dentist for a multitude of reasons. Dentistry perfectly combines her love of art with her love of science. It allows her to help others by participating in mission work. She feels very lucky to have found a profession that allows her to help those in need. While in dental school, she was involved in the Mission of Mercy Project, which provided dental care to low-income people in remote areas of Virginia. She has also traveled to Ecuador, Peru, Honduras, Nicaragua, and Myanmar with Global Health Outreach to provide dentistry to people that have no access to care. She feels there’s no greater joy in this world than serving those in need. It’s a win-win!

In her spare time, she enjoys listening to country music, running, painting, playing volleyball, and learning about nutrition. She is a member of the Academy of General Dentistry and the Omicron Kappa Upsilon Dental Honor Society.

Dr. Alana Gilgurd

Dr. Gilgurd grew up in Long Island, NY. She always liked the idea of living somewhere warm, so she pursued her Bachelor of Health Sciences at the University of Miami. Shortly before graduating, she had her own dental needs that sparked her interest in the profession of dentistry. She completed her dental education at Boston University, followed by a General Practice Residency at Loyola University in Chicago. After six years of cold winters, she finally made Austin her home, which had been her dream for the past ten years.

Dentistry fulfills her interest in healthcare and her desire to help people feel better. Dr. Gilgurd loves to be of service to everyone she meets and is hoping to change people’s minds about going to the dentist – It should always be a good experience! Dr. Gilgurd has traveled to Honduras for a dental mission trip and wants to do more as soon as possible. Outside of dentistry, Dr. Gilgurd is an avid reader, fond of animals, and shares her home with two cats. She runs multiple marathons a year and is working towards completing fifty marathons in fifty states!

Dr. Veronique Smith-Hoffman

Dr. Hoffman was born and raised in Houston with her two brothers to a French mother and an American father. During her studies in biology at UT in Austin, her interest in different languages and cultures brought her to study Spanish and spend time in Argentina. After college, Dr. Hoffman attended dental school in San Antonio where she had the opportunity to participate in several dental mission trips serving communities along the border near Eagle Pass and Laredo. The experiences cemented her resolve to use her profession as an opportunity to promote the dignity of everyone she works with. She believes that a key to this dignity is an honest and respectful relationship that allows her patients the space to make informed decisions that take into account their own values.

After completing dental school, Dr. Hoffman returned to Austin with her husband, Ian. When not working with patients, Dr. Hoffman spends plenty of time reading, cooking, and gardening. Besides being important for your oral and overall health, good food is part of the ‘joie de vivre’!
